Tao Leigh Goffe inaugurates the 2024 Sunroom Project Space season with Plot and Provision: Crate-Digging, a climate-art, multimedia installation that explores intergenerational healing through the sounds and the soil of the Bronx. Drawing from research on botanicas, botanical gardens, the notion of the commons and the historical segmentation and allocation of land as drawn from plantation experiences, Goffe’s project manifests as both a site-specific bunker and an archive of gardening rituals across the Caribbean diaspora with connections between African, Asian and Indigenous modes of botanical cultivation.

Goffe’s first solo exhibition is a critique of the violence of mono-crop agriculture, which “stages doomsday prepping as Black feminist aesthetic," writes the artist. Deriving from Goffe’s writing on sugarcane plantations, what she calls “sugarwork,” and the art of record bin diving to unearth the DNA of musical sounds, “the installation sits with the materiality of dirt by playing with crate digging and digging as a sonic practice of cultivation to transform the Sunroom into a space for drafting revolution, collusion, and the blueprints for revolutionary acts across Black and Indigenous cultures."
